CS Logbook Sheets is a DEA-compliant controlled substance tracking system built on Google Sheets. It uses Google Apps Script to enforce required fields, prevent manual edits, calculate running balances automatically, and maintain an append-only corrections audit trail. It's designed for veterinary clinics that want the familiarity of a spreadsheet with the compliance structure of purpose-built software.

The enforcement layer is built into Google Apps Script — not the spreadsheet itself. This means required fields are validated before a record is saved, entries are append-only (no editing after the fact), running balances are calculated automatically from the transaction history, waste and disposal entries require a witness, and all corrections create a new record that references the original. Manual edits to the underlying data are blocked via sheet protection.

CS Logbook Sheets is designed for DEA compliance, not HIPAA. The application layer is ours, but the underlying storage is Google's infrastructure. We do not make HIPAA representations for the Sheets edition. CS Logbook Online (coming 2026) will include data residency controls and is designed with HIPAA considerations in mind — but you should always consult your compliance officer before making HIPAA determinations for your practice.

CS Logbook is designed to help veterinary practices meet the record-keeping requirements of DEA 21 CFR Part 1304, which requires maintaining accurate records of all Schedule II–V controlled substance receipts, dispensing, and disposals, with a running balance. It also supports the corrections and waste documentation workflows required by DEA guidance. CS Logbook does not replace a DEA compliance officer or legal counsel.

The Solo plan supports up to 3 users. The Professional and Multi-Location plans support unlimited users. All plans include role-based access menus so each user sees the appropriate workflow for their role (veterinarian, technician, or practice manager).

CS Logbook Online is in active development and is expected to launch in 2026. It will be a fully cloud-native version with a true immutable audit log (PostgreSQL append-only events), role-based access control at the database level, AES-256 encryption at rest, and US data residency.
