DEA Compliance → Biennial Inventory
Purpose
Record your periodic full physical count of controlled substances in CS Logbook — capturing the count, the substances, and an authorized signature — so you have a retained, signed inventory record. How often the count is required and what it must contain are set by the DEA and your state; CS Logbook gives you the workflow to perform and preserve it.
This is general product information about CS Logbook, not legal advice. CS Logbook does not define inventory frequency or content requirements. Verify the current requirement with the DEA Diversion Control Division and your state board.
In CS Logbook
The biennial inventory workflow walks you through a complete count:
- Count each active controlled substance, record the result, and capture an authorized digital signature before the inventory can be finalized.
- Once finalized, the record locks for audit-trail integrity and is exportable as a signed PDF you can produce for an inspection.
- CS Logbook can surface a soft reminder when your most recent count is getting old, so a due inventory does not slip. The reminder never blocks you, and the authoritative cadence is the DEA's and your state's.
How to run and finalize it:
Where the official requirement lives
CS Logbook does not define the inventory requirement. The authoritative sources are:
- eCFR — Title 21, Part 1304 (Records and Reports) — covering inventory requirements: frequency, content, signature.
- DEA Diversion Control Division — current guidance.
- Your state board — some states require a more frequent (e.g., annual) inventory. CS Logbook does not track per-state inventory cadence; confirm yours with your board.
