DEA Compliance → DEA Registration Overview
Purpose
Keep your DEA registration on file in CS Logbook so its status and expiration date are visible to the clinic and so renewal reminders fire before it lapses. CS Logbook stores the registration as a license record; it does not issue, validate, or renew the registration itself — that happens with the DEA.
This is general product information about CS Logbook, not legal advice. CS Logbook does not define or certify compliance with DEA registration rules. Verify current registration and renewal requirements with the DEA Diversion Control Division and your state board.
In CS Logbook
Your DEA registration is tracked through the Licenses feature:
- Record the registration number, issuing authority, issue date, and expiration date.
- CS Logbook surfaces it on the licenses list and the Expiring view, and generates reminders as the expiration date approaches (default thresholds: 90 / 60 / 30 / 14 / 7 days).
- When the DEA renews the registration, use Renew License so the new dates drive the reminders and a renewal-history row is kept for the audit trail.
Step-by-step instructions, fields, and screenshots live in the licenses guide:
CS Logbook treats a lapsed or soon-to-expire registration as a soft reminder, never a block — you can always keep recording transactions. The reminder is there so you can verify and act; it is not a determination that you are out of compliance.
Where the official requirement lives
CS Logbook does not define these rules. The authoritative sources are:
- DEA Diversion Control Division — registration, renewal, and the rules for practitioners who handle controlled substances.
- DEA Forms & Applications — the official registration and renewal applications.
- eCFR — Title 21, Part 1301 — the registration regulations themselves.
For renewal timing, fees, and eligibility, follow the DEA's current guidance — not this guide.
